Hair Porosity 101: Build the Right Routine for Frizz, Shine, and Hold (With the Right Tools)

Why porosity matters: Porosity = how your hair absorbs/retains moisture. Get it wrong and you’ll fight frizz, limp curls, or dryness every day.

1) Quick porosity test (home version)

  • Low: Hair floats in water; resists moisture; gets frizzy on surface.

  • Medium: Sinks slowly; easiest to style; best shine/hold.

  • High: Sinks fast; absorbs quickly but loses moisture fast; prone to puff.

2) Low porosity routine (seal, don’t suffocate)

  • Warm water wash; lightweight leave-in; lower heat + longer cool.

  • Tool: 5-in-1 with 25–28 mm for definition without overheat.

  • Finish: Micro-serum on ends only.

3) Medium porosity routine (you’re lucky)

  • Balanced moisture/protein; moderate heat; standard set/cool.

  • Tool: Cordless Comb Straightener for daily polish.

  • Refresh: Face-frame re-curl next day, not full restyle.

4) High porosity routine (lock it in)

  • Richer conditioner + protectant; smaller barrel for curl memory; pin/cool every curl.

  • Tool: Cordless Curler Pro (consistent timing) or 5-in-1 (19–22 mm).

  • Finish: Light workable spray over the air; walk through it.

5) Universal temperature guide

  • Fine/colored: 160–175°C

  • Normal: 175–190°C

  • Thick/coarse: 190–205°C

6) Weekly maintenance

Clarify once every 2–3 weeks; clean plates/barrels weekly.

Top FAQs

  • Can I mix tools? Yes—comb for smoothing + 25 mm barrel for bounce.
